WATA Golf Outing Recap

Athletic Trainers enjoyed a beautiful day on the golf course for the comeback of the Wisconsin Athletic Trainers’ Association Golf Outing. The association welcomed twelve teams to The Oaks Golf Course on July 29th, 2021, with all proceeds benefiting scholarships and research grants.
The Oaks Golf Course featured 18-holes that were quietly nestled among rolling hills. The on-course contests featuring the longest putt, longest drive, and closest to the pin, kept play fun and friendly. Many of the golfers thought the half-barrel of Spotted Cow discovered on the course was very refreshing, too. The course presented thirteen sponsored holes spread through the course. One special hole sponsor included a long-time friend of the WATA Golf Outing, John Orwin.
After the round of golf was over, members enjoyed a buffet lunch in the clubhouse.
WATA President, Anna Linstedt, LAT, ATC, announced the prize winners for the on-course contests, as well as the winning foursome and the winner of the putting contest. The WATA Leadership members that joined the golf outing were introduced to the audience, and then drew raffle tickets and announced the winners.
A special guest golfer, Ryan Wilkinson, EdD, ATC, joined the outing this year. Ryan Wilkinson is the first-ever, Director- Elect, to the National Athletic Trainers’ Association’s new District 11. Ryan Wilkinson is a past president of the WATA and was great company at the golf outing.
After a five-year long hiatus, the WATA Golf Outing made its comeback. It was a great way for athletic trainers to have a little fun before the fall sports season starts in August. Governmental Affairs Committee Chair, Mike VanVeghel, thanked the athletic trainers that came for “reinvigorating this year’s golf outing.” The proceeds of the golf outing went to scholarships and research grants.
