The Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association District 4 split into two new districts that segment geographically to comprise the National Athletic Trainers Association on January 1st, 2022.
The original National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) District 4 was three times larger than the rest of the districts that comprise the NATA (Quinn). The two new districts, four and eleven, still be the fourth and fifth largest districts in NATA amidst the split, and increase volunteer leadership opportunities for members within each district (Quinn).
District Eleven will include Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois. District Eleven will send all of its own appointments to be represented on NATA committees, just as the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association (GLATA) had prior to the split.
District Eleven’s Executive Committee
The first appointment for District Eleven was to the NATA Board of Directors. Ryan Wilkinson, EdD, ATC, was elected District Eleven Director in a special election that took place in April, 2021.
Appointments for District Secretary and Treasurer were elected in November, 2021. Andrea Kovalsky was elected District Secretary and Kenny Wilka was elected District Treasurer.
GLATA Leads the New Districts
All of the appointments to the new district were held through membership elections by the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association. Current District 4 Director Craig Voll, said in a recent NATA blog “GLATA will always be the association that oversees and involves all six states” (Quinn).
